Finding Dennis

This month marks the next chapter in our short film, “Finding Dennis”.  Our tale of a brother and sister reunited after the death of their mother hit the festival circuit last week!

Filmmaking, I am discovering, is exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time.  On the one hand, my cast and crew and I get to see the outcome of our hard work.  While it was a two day shoot, it was a second and third floor, no elevator, lots o‘ equipment shoot.  The kind that beats you up in the first hour and doesn’t stop until the the truck is packed at the end of the shoot.  And with the sweat came some great relationships.  We were all strangers to each other at the beginning.  Now we are vested in each other.   And that is cool.

On the other hand, what if it doesn’t make it into a festival?  After all the time, energy and money have been spent, what if no one wants to see it?  What if the hours of writing, producing, shooting and editing yield a film which never makes it out of the gate?

As Steven Sondheim made famous, “Look, I made a hat! Where there never was a hat!”

And that is cool, too.
